Sport Photography

Sport photography is the art of capturing the speed, skill, emotion, and excitement of athletic competition through photographs. The Balinese photographers who photograph people/runners around Bali and sell the photos through FotoYu, I would describe their work more specifically as event sports photography OR sports lifestyle photography, what do you think?

The Bali Gates of Heaven refer to the stunning entrance of Pura Luhur Lempuyang, a sacred Hindu temple in East Bali. This iconic spot is famous for its breathtaking view of Mount Agung, perfectly framed by the split gateway, creating a mesmerizing reflection effect that has made it a favorite among travelers and photographers.

Located in the Karangasem Regency, the temple sits at an elevation of 1,175 meters (3,855 feet) above sea level, offering panoramic views and a serene spiritual experience. Visitors often queue for hours to capture the perfect photo at the gates, especially during sunrise or sunset when the lighting enhances the dramatic scenery.

Frangipani

Bali has a tropical climate and there are all year round of this flowers. It can be white, red, yellow, pink or mix colors. The flower is very important among Balinese. It is used in the small offerings called “Canang.” These offerings are square-shaped and made from young coconut leaves. They include flowers, a slice of sugar cane, and other leaves. They serve as a thanksgiving expression to God. Balinese called frangipani as Jepun. There are “jepun bali” and “jepun jawa.” The wood of jepun bali is prized by woodcarvers for making free-form statues. The “jepun jawa” trunk is softer than the bali one. Nevertheless, the “jepun jawa” is more widely distributed. It can be found in every type of environment from the house compound till temple yards. The bali frangipani is in a smaller size then the jawa one. Women thread this flower in their hair, men wear them behind an ear or stuck in “udeng”, a head band.

Canang, a Thanksgiving Expression

Canang is a Balinese language refers to daily offering made of young coconut leaf in square form made by folding the leaf and skewered by bamboo. On this square form leaf we put colorful flowers, “porosan”, a litle dab of lime paste plus  tiny sliver of areca nut wrapped up in betel  leaf and fruits mostly a slice of sugar cane or banana. Stick of incense and water are needed when we offer this thanksgiving expression to God.  As tourists you will see this offering in front of souvenir shops or dashboard of taxi in Bali. Bhagavad Gita (ix:26), one of Hindu holy books says Whosoever offers to me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water, that offering of love, of the pure heart I accept.

Marriage

Marriage is the final initiation into the Balinese community. Most Balinese consider it an important social obligation to raise a family and only a married man may become a member of a banjar “community”. A person never marries is looked upon as an oddity; if a man dies a bachelor The Balinese say that in the next life he will feed pigs, a woman task. If a woman dies childless, she is sucked by a giant caterpillar

Buyan Lake

One of the four lakes in Bali, it has an extend 3.9 square kilometers and 87 meters deep. The lake view can be seen from place near Gobleg village while having tea or coffee. People also stop north of the lake for its view and feed long tail monkeys.

Volcano and Lake of Batur

Batur is names of the second highest volcano in Bali 1717 meters and the largest lake 1718 ha, on a normal tour the tourists just admire the view from Kintamani village as there are many restaurants/cafes overthere face to volcano to enjoy the scenery. So mostly they are there during lunch time but for photographers this place is a site to see the sunrise to capture Batur volcano and its lake during sunrise. Adventurers will hike up to the top of Batur volcano to enjoy the sunrise as well.

Tirta Empul Temple

The location is in Manukaya Tampaksiring dated back to 962, the temple known as Spring temple cause in the main yard of the temple there is a source of water that always come out from the ground. Then the water flow out to several fountains to out side yard where Balinese and some tourists do the purification.

Taman Ujung Sukasada

Resting place  of Karangasem King, it used to have on pool only but I Gusti Bagus Jelantik or Anak Agung Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, King of Karangasem who was a famous architect extend the area with other pool and building. Taman Ujung Sukasada, also known as Taman Ujung is a beautiful and historic site located in Ujung, Karangasem, Bali. Built in 1901 by the King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, this water palace combines European classical architecture with stunning coastal and mountain views. The palace features three large pools, lush gardens, and a unique pavilion called the Balai Kapal(Ship Pavilion) in the middle of the largest pool. It’s a popular spot for photos and offers a serene and picturesque setting.

Explore Uluwatu Temple: A Sunset Paradise in Bali

It locates in the southernmost edge of the Bali island, hundred meters above sea level, the scenery is marvelous especially during sunset. According to inscription in Blanjong and Gianyar this temple was built in 917 by King Sri Kesari Warmadewa. The area of the temple is quite big to explore from north to south, at least need one hour to do it. The temple also were inhabited by hundred of long tailed macaque monkeys. There is Kecak dance performance here start at 18.00 hrs last for an hour portraying the story of Ramayana but during that time the sun also down so you need to choose whether shoot the sun or the dance
