Sanur Beach

Sanur Beach is known for its calm and shallow waters, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities. Batukaru Mountain

Mount Batukaru, also known as Gunung Batukaru, is the second-highest mountain in Bali, standing at 2,276 meters (7,467 feet) above sea level. It’s located in the Tabanan Regency and is part of the Bedugul Volcanic Area. The mountain is considered sacred and is home to several temples along the hiking route. Hiking Mount Batukaru is a challenging but rewarding experience. The trail starts near the Pura Siva Temple and takes about 5-7 hours to complete. The hike is best done during the dry season (April to October) to avoid slippery conditions. The summit offers stunning views of the surrounding rainforest, northern Bali, and even the neighboring islands of Java and Lombok on clear days.

Tenganan Village – Bali’s Unique Village and Its Legends

An unique village in Karangasem regency closed to Candi Dasa resort, it is located on the slove of the hill, the village itself is sorrounded by the wall. The village related to the story of “Oncesrawa”, a beloved horse of the Bali ancient king of Bedulu, the horse lost. Those who find the horse whether dead or alive, he will grant a piece of land. The ancestor of Tenganan village was the person who found the dead body of the horse on the land of Tenganan village now. Overthere there is a unique event “Perang Pandan”, fighting used some pandanus leaf with its thorn. The villager’s skill is to make Ate weaving and Gringsing hand weaving cloth.

Temple Festival Procession

The villagers proceed to the temple festival. Mostly temple festival in Bali falls every 210 days in Wuku Bali traditional calender, some of the villages arrange the procession from the community hall “Balai Banjar” to the temple. The housewives carry the offering on their head followed by the “Gamelan” percussion orchestra. The offering, consists of any kinds of fruits, decorated coconut leaf and flowers are carried on the head of housewives and they proceed to the temple. Offering is a thanksgiving to the God on all the prosperities we accept.

Batubolong Temple

One of the best sites to see a sunset with a temple with the hollow as a foreground, Batubolong is a temple on a rock with the hole beneath it, its location is the same area with Tanah Lot temple so for sunset shoot overthere you need to choose Tanah Lot or Batubolong as a foreground of the sunset. This area is good also for slow speed shoot as many volcanic stone on that beach.

Lake of Tamblingan

Considered as the smallest lake in Bali, Beautiful lake at north of Bali, it has an extend 1.9 square kilometers and 90 meters deep, with the elevation of more than 1000 meters above sea level so this area is quite cool and sometimes misty. Near Asah Gobleg village there is a beautiful stop to have a look of this lake and its twin, Buyan lake. The place is ideal for trekking and sunrise shoot as well.

Canang, a Thanksgiving Expression

Canang is a Balinese language refers to daily offering made of young coconut leaf in square form made by folding the leaf and skewered by bamboo. On this square form leaf we put colorful flowers, “porosan”, a litle dab of lime paste plus  tiny sliver of areca nut wrapped up in betel  leaf and fruits mostly a slice of sugar cane or banana. Stick of incense and water are needed when we offer this thanksgiving expression to God.  As tourists you will see this offering in front of souvenir shops or dashboard of taxi in Bali. Bhagavad Gita (ix:26), one of Hindu holy books says Whosoever offers to me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water, that offering of love, of the pure heart I accept.

Tanah Lot: Capturing the Perfect Sunset Shot

Tanah Lot comes from two words, Tanah means Land and Lot means Sea so a land in this case a huge rock on the sea. This place in sixteen century used by a holy priest from Java gave a Hinduism teaching to local people there. During sunset is the best moment to take pictures here, cause this is one of the best places in Bali so hundreds of people come here during sunset, it becomes difficult to take long exposure shoot. There are two angle for sunset shoot, if low tide we can do low angle one need to walk a little bit so we can put the temple as a foreground and the sun behind. The other angle is high angle shoot from the stall that sell young coconut water known as sunset terrace.
